According to the center, the books are in the field of Tafsir (Quran interpretation) and other Quranic sciences.

They will be presented at the 55th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair, it said, Akhbar al-Yawm website reported.

Dr Nazir Ayad, head of the Islamic Studies Center of Al-Azhar, said the major work published by the center recently is a ten-volume interpretation of the Quran entitled “A Moderate Exegesis of Quran.”

He said the book, compiled upon the recommendation of the fourth conference organized by the Islamic Studies Academy, aims to offer a brief and easy-to-understand interpretation of the verses.

In this exegesis, the focus has been on the main purpose of the Holy Quran, namely guidance, he said.

Ayad added that in this work, a scholarly approach has been used in interpreting the verses and Hadiths with weak chains of narration have been overlooked.

Some critics say the emphasis on a so-called “moderate approach” in interpretation of the Quran is in line with the new policies of the government of Egypt aimed at introducing restrictions to the activities of religious institutions.

They say attempts to normalize cultural and social relations with the Zionist regime are also part of the objectives of Cairo’s new policies.
